The Birds and their Goods were happily part of Paper Crown's 2nd Annual Glitter Market.
Thank you so much to all who came to the market and supported our local artists. Alas no Bird Booth photos but enough of us, right?

We, as well as the greater Oklahoma City metroplex and surrounding areas LOVE Jackie Peters.

A line formed to get in at opening and Jackie was buried under adoring fans.

One had to pre-shop Jackie to get goods without also being elbowed. However, being elbowed is a small price to pay...

It is a good thing to hitch our nest to her star.

Robin is participating in Susan Reaney's Upcycled Treasures Swap. Robin joined this swap, but hell, she would have joined Suz's swap if it was called 'The Glittered Turd.' Fortunately it is not. It is a one-on-one swap where each person creates a one of a kind necklace pieced entirely from vintage jewelry and, in turn receives something fabulous. Robin has never made anything like this before but is loving what she came up with. Cannot wait to show you the rest!!!

Well, it's that time of year again, the leaves are falling, the garden is wilting, our toes are freezing, and we are prepping for our trek to Omaha. Jemellia finished her Fabric Banner Swap.

12 lucky ladies make the same panel 12 times and send to Molly, our hostess. She will take one of each panel and complete 12 banners for us to pick up during Silver Bella.

Jemellia did not stray far from her favorite colors for her panel. It took some time to sew everything, several thread colors-- it is always worth it.

Oh, you knew there would be embroidery...

We are really looking forward to Swap Night at Silver Bella!

The birds are gearing up for Silver Bella 5. A big part of this annual art retreat are the art swaps. Both Jemellia and Robin are participating in a few swaps and will be revealing little looks at what they have come up with...

First up is a Junque Journal Swap hosted by Sheila Rumney.

Each participant is to create a collection of 20 pieces of vintage ephemera all packaged up nicely. Sheila will make journal covers and we should each come away with about 200 pieces for to complete our own journals. Robin has been working on this one...

Jemellia celebrated a birthday in late August, although it was a sleep deprived day, it was a joyful, eventful day. You may be familiar with a robin's song, but Jemellia received one from Robin with a different tune--the "Happy Birthday" song. Robin was the only one to sing to Je! Oh, birds.

Later that day, Robin met with Jemellia to give her a bellyache...

And it worked.

Upon opening aforementioned bellyache, there was some gushing and shrieking.

Collected Thread is an attractive shop in Oklahoma City owned by the fresh and talented Lindsey Z. Lindsey opened her store with the goal of selling handmade items, most of them produced locally. Robin has stocked her knits there on several occasions. Jemellia finally got her inventory stocked for CL, as the vibe is retro-chic. Yes, you can add "chic" to anything...

Stores like Collected Thread and next door neighbor, DNA Galleries (hi Amanda!) are doing great things for the OKC community. Their profits are from people that like, buy, appreciate, and produce handmade things that are done well. Give handmade a chance!

Pippin + Pearl is a new emporium in Oklahoma City where you can find accessories for women and children. One of the owners put out an ad for local, handmade artists with kids items and Jemellia answered the call. The Pip is now carrying JemJam's little girl skirts with coordinating tees.

Here is a set that a papillon chaser (such as Jemellia's little one) will enjoy.

Love paisley? Yeah, we do, too.

There is an apron attached to one of these skirts. Jemellia embroidered a simple hand-drawn bird on the apron, here's a peek.

She plans to attach and embroider more aprons to skirts of this style if there is positive feedback.

2 Birds in a Pod will make an effort to enjoy summer 2010, Robin is building her fall/winter inventory and hoping for a goodnights rest. What are your plans for the approaching season?

While Valentine's is long past, the love, or at least the gifts linger still. Why, no, I am not talking about the chocolates and your hips...but the love shared between two birds.

We always exchange remberences. In February, Jemellia gave Robin this package.

Inside was this embellished journal.

Will she dare write in it? Only special things. A tribute to Jemellia Bird no doubt.

Robin gave this gift to Jemellia.

Inside was this little collage quilt. Jemellia loves fabric covered buttons, the one here bears a "J." Awww.

Then Robin sent a thank you note to Jemellia. But Jemellia sent this thank you gift to Robin.

So sad, they no longer speak following the 'cease and desist' litigation and all.

Three things about Donna Layton... She is the purveyor of vintage wallpaper. She is smart, insular and wickedly funny. She is now teaching classes at our local and lovely Paper Crown.

We took a Vintage Garland class in December. Donna hand colored the tinsel in various inks then taught us how to make the globes. Those engineering degrees really came in handy. Robin received this special ornament Donna made as a door prize. The detail is well, detailed. So good, she is so very good.

In February Donna taught us how to make these Honeycomb Spheres. Not balls. Oh, we wore out balls. Spheres. Here is the kit. The name tag is handmade, of course. But the deal is that she drew and hand-colored the rose motif. Oh Donna...

The spheres are made from coffee filters. The white ones are made from baking cups. Honestly, it is such a little thrill to pull them open and see the effect.

Some gifts were shared between birds for the Valentine Holiday. I will share soon. Can't look directly at the photos yet, too many tears obscuring the view...

Two Birds had a nice time at the Paper Crown Glitter Market last weekend. Paper Crown is our premiere scrapbook and more store in our area.

We enjoyed the company of wonderfully creative women. We both adore the adorable Holly Abston.

She has a distinct, delicious and lovely style.

I could just swallow these whole with a shot of milk.

I cannot look directly at this, too beautiful...

Holly's houses...perfect birdhouse for each of us huh?

Also there was Nan Nix. She is really a wonderful doll maker.

Look at the muff on that one.

Donna Layton had her pieces there as well. She is the known for her vintage wallpapers.

And she is funny as all get out. Look at these brooches, sigh.

A veteran teacher of classes at paper Crown is Jackie Peters. Gorgeous and a bottomless pit of talent, we really respect her.

2 Birds drove to Omaha for Silver Bella. Eight hours and never ran out of things to say. Ideas, stories, and very important observations. We delighted each other with presents during our stay.

2 Birds will be spending the weekend amongst the glitter sniffers and such at Silver Bella. We will be vendors there on Friday night. There is always a theme for this market. Last year is was Prom Night. You can imagine what 300 women all hyped up on glue did with that. This year the theme is 100 Aprons. In honor of all the ladie's elation for accessorizing an outfit specifically for the kitchen, we offer up Jemellia's lovely apron.

Some details about this delicious confection... the apron body is 19" wide by 20" long. The apron ties are extra long so that you can bring them around to the front, which also makes it available for many, well, ALL sizes. Now please, go make a pie!

Robin's knits can be found at a little bakery in Oklahoma City called Green Goodies. Miss Tiffany contacted Robin who was all too thrilled to connect a deep and abiding love of frosting with knits.

Green Goodies has a scrumptious bakery smell when you walk in. Have you noticed you can't smell baking in some bakeries? The store features gluten and peanut free products. Trust me, that only adds to the goodness.

Also there is such a cuteness there with real furniture.

And the baked goods. Sigh.

Tiffany wanted the knits to reflects the confectionery goodness of her business cards.

So, we have now done a three day craft show. Uhmm. Yeah. We will never again wonder. Now we know. We laughed, cried and gave a few raised eyebrow looks and knowing glances to each other. No eye contact was requested more than once. We really are 2 of a kind. Look at the vendor apron Jemellia made for Robin. Too bad Robin wet her pants a little when she saw it. Jemellia really does try to make her miserable.

Robin made this for Jemellia. However, she doesn't love it. Again with the misery.

Jemellia and Robin are knee-deep, no, ass-deep in getting ready for a 3 day show in a couple of weeks all the while working on swaps for Silver Bella. Oh that is a whole thing. The following are texts between the two...

Robin: I am still working on that swap, alternating with candy canes and dolls. I feel like such a machine. Are we going to sell all this stuff?

Jemellia: Hell yes!!

Robin: These dolls, they stare at me, they mock me.

Jemellia: Funny, sounds like my child.

Robin: Motherhood is a bit like a demonic possession from the moment they invade the uterus...

Jemellia: So true and sad.

Jemellia: I'm listening to a book while stitching for a swap. E is watching a how on iTunes. We are winners.

Robin: Is she drinking Coke out of a baby bottle?

Jemellia: Do you mean Pepsi?

Robin: I just walked in and told A she should go pour herself a glass of chocolate milk. It's noon.

Jemellia: I had guilt built up & made made E pancakes.

Robin: Hey, I can use a toaster too.

Jemellia: I don't have time to plug in a toaster. 1 set of mittens left to stitch, 20 yo-yos up next.

Robin: Next time you want to do a show, could I just be water-boarded instead?

Jemellia: Oh no, the stories you'd tell would not involve as many tears...

Well, Miss Jemellia survived the Dust Bowl Arts Market. The weather was moderate, unusual for August in Oklahoma. The music was really good.

The crowds were crowded, which is desirable of course. Seems like everyone enjoyed themselves. I do believe they are on to something with that handmade market.

A big thanks to those who put the market on, to those who were in attendance and to those that bought our goods. Big smooch. Oh dang, lip gloss on the monitor....

Jemellia will be appearing at the Dust Bowl Arts Market this Saturday, 29 August. She will be showing her juicy, useful goods which include aprons, and fabulous, reversible handbags. She also has charming little hair accessories.

The Dust Bowl Market will be held on Campus Corner at the University of Oklahoma. So, Robin has been thinking crimson and cream and made these pillows, poseys and scarves, oh my.

An Introduction...

Meet Jemellia and Robin. They are two gals cut from the same cloth and knew it the minute they met at a craft show almost 3 years ago. They have not had a booth without the other since. Jemellia sews aprons, totes and various juicy and useful goods. Jemellia has an Etsy store JemJam. Robin sews dolls and pillows under the Etsy store RaggedyPageant. But because of Robin's dual personalities also has knitted goods under the name VintageGardenKnits.

So what to do with all those names? Why add another of course! In an effort to simplify we have a collaboration called 2BirdsInAPod. Oh yeah, you're here. Thanks for that and for believing that more is more...

Here is Jemellia on a recent trip the girls took to Tulsa to the An Affair of the Heart An Affair of the Heart event in July. Too bad Jemellia couldn't find a big pair of sunglasses...
